Marcel Schnideritsch, BSc MSc

Graduate from IT- and Mobile Security

Marcel Schnideritsch studied Software Design and IT- and Mobile Security at FH JOANNEUM. Today he works as Penetration Tester at CANCOM Austria AG and as a teacher at HTBLA Kaindorf.

🎓What I studied:

💻My Job: Senior Penetration Tester at CANCOM Austria AG and teacher at HTBLA Kaindorf in Graz, Austria.

📭 How to get in touch: LinkedIn, Webiste.

Me in three emojis: 💻🏎️💪

In my free time: I`m at the gym or in the workshop.

The coolest internship experience: Breaking into an office building in Graz.

When I was little I wanted to be a chef, now I’m a hacker.

This is where I spent my time after the classes: in the boot of my car, drinking boot beer.

The best food on campus: “Schachtelwirt” (McDonalds).

My favorite place on campus: The couch 😉

If my studies were a song, it would be: All the small things – Blink182, because in many subjects it’s all about the details that you take with you.

You’re guaranteed to learn that during your studies: Time management.

The best course was Quantum Cryptography.

Fun fact from your studies? Unnecessary knowledge? Coffee is not an official subject, but I wouldn’t have got through cryptography without it.

Keep at it and don’t give up – even when things get tough. Use the time to support each other and experience your studies together.

About my job

I work as a pentester and detect vulnerabilities in IT systems – for example in web applications, networks or mobile apps. In addition to carrying out security tests, my tasks also include coordinating with customers and preparing reports with specific recommendations for action. I grew into the job through my own initiative, a willingness to learn and active networking – my involvement in the community was particularly valuable.

What I appreciate most about my job is the variety, the technical challenges and the meaning behind the work – namely making systems more secure. I’m less enthusiastic about writing reports, but that’s also part of the job. The job requires a sound technical understanding, good time management, creative thinking and strong communication skills, for example in customer contact or when presenting results.

One of the highlights of my career so far was setting up a new pentesting team at a previous employer – being part of it from the very beginning was both educational and motivating. In the future, I would like to deepen my expertise and work more in the field of cybersecurity education. With good time management – and a little ADHD – it’s surprisingly easy to combine work and further education.
