🎓This is what I studied:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, EMU19
💻 My job: Divisional Climate Impact Specialist at voestalpine High Performance Metals in Kapfenberg and Vienna, Austria
If I hadn’t studied environmental management, I wouldn’t have followed my destiny. Studying opened the door to a future full of opportunities for me personally and for our environment.
After lectures, I often spent my time with my family, children and studying.
My personal favourite place on campus: the assembly hall. I always had good conversations there. Whether with friends about private matters or with people interested in the same subject.
That’s how I celebrated my graduation: Unfortunately not at all. I had the chance to make a career start and favoured this path
Tell us what your job is without telling us what your job is: Sustainability, environmental protection and economic success combined.
You are guaranteed to learn this during your studies: The degree programme is characterised by diversity of content, practical relevance and collegial interaction. You are given all the tools you need, in my case in the energy sector, to handle projects at the highest level and make difficult decisions.
The best course was: in retrospect, every course proved to be enormously important and supportive in my job. Even if you thought here and there during your studies: What’s this for? I don’t want to give a rating because all the courses were valuable.
That’s what I took away from the degree programme for my job: The degree programme is the ideal foundation for my current position. I have acquired extensive knowledge in all relevant areas of sustainability and energy efficiency as well as in project management and business administration. I am confronted with tasks on a daily basis in which the knowledge I learnt during my studies supports me.
If you want to protect our planet with common sense and sustainability, this degree programme is just right for you. You will learn all the tools you need to do this. You can really make a difference.
I am responsible for implementing the decarbonisation and energy efficiency strategy at the voestalpine HPM production sites. The six large processing plants and steelworks are spread around the world. My responsibilities include planning the strategy, coordinating the projects and collecting and monitoring the relevant KPIs.
There is an extensive exchange of information in my day-to-day work. Numerous meetings are held daily with those responsible at the sites. Creating and analysing reports is also an important part of day-to-day business. I also take part in numerous conferences and meetings organised by professional associations and the government.
How did I get this job? My bachelor thesis attracted attention.
What I like about my job is that I can actually make a difference with my work – and the results prove that my assessment is correct. My area of responsibility is very varied and includes both communication and number-based activities. The challenge is to harmonise environmental protection and economic interests.
The job requires team spirit, motivation, courage, commitment, lateral thinking, empathy, expertise and a willingness to learn.
I have arrived where I feel comfortable. Now it’s time to realise my strategy
