The internet has radically reshaped how people connect and organise, enabling everything from global fan communities to political manipulation and worldwide movements such as the Arab Spring, Climate Strikes, Black Lives Matter, and MeToo. Social media platforms now hold immense power over public discourse, data, and transparency.
What does this mean for democracy? Our political systems evolve far more slowly than today’s digital social fabric. Will current democratic systems endure, or is it time to rethink democracy, social media, or both?
This exhibition addresses contemporary challenges, from the loss of a shared sense of reality to inequalities of power and the erosion of democratic values.
The exhibition “ENTANGLED IN DEMOCRACY – Über Wandel, Kontrolle und digitale Realitäten” is developed by Master’s students of Exhibition Design at FH JOANNEUM, in cooperation with the ESC Media Lab and the Complex Social & Computational Systems Group at the IDea_Lab, University of Graz.
