Barbara Reiter, BSc MA studied Software Design and Cloud Computing as well as IT-Law and Management and works as project coordinator at FH JOANNEUM.

🎓 What I studied:

📈 My Job : Project coordinator for the project Green KAIT at FH JOANNEUM Kapfenberg, Austria

📭 How to get in touch: LinkedIn.

Me in three emojis: 💻 📅🌳

In my free time: I am a passionate farmer.

That was the coolest internship: a summer internship in software testing for an airport security system.

If I hadn’t studied Software Design and Cloud Computing I would be: working in the restaurant industry.

If I hadn’t studied IT law and management, I would be: a web developer.

My favorite place on campus: the seating area in the foyer.

How I celebrated my graduation: relaxing in the garden with my family and friends.

This is what you are guaranteed to learn in the master’s program: One thing you are guaranteed to learn during your studies is time management. When you have to juggle lectures, group projects, professional commitments, and homework, you eventually become a master of planning—or a caffeine expert.

The best course was: Business Mediation & Conflict Resolution—because it showed me how much you can achieve with communication. A highlight that you might not expect during your studies.

I had a bit of a struggle with this course: IT Standards, without a doubt. What sounds harmless in theory turned out to be a real challenge – lots of acronyms, lots of levels, even more details. Today I know that standards rule the world… but they are rarely exciting.

Fun fact from my studies? Unnecessary knowledge? Agile project methods are like group work: efficient in theory, chaotic in practice.

Start group projects early – or at least find people who do. ->Procrastination is human, group panic is everyday life at university.

About my job

I coordinate projects at the interface between partners, sponsors, and internal teams—and make sure everything runs smoothly. In addition to classic project management, I am also responsible for billing, deadlines, and funding logic. I am the central point of contact for all parties involved and keep track of everything when many threads come together. I also design and moderate workshops and training courses in the field of entrepreneurship. And I organize events that bring people, ideas, and opportunities together.

I like the variety—no two days are the same, and that’s exactly what keeps me alert and motivated. The flexibility gives me the space to work creatively and solution-oriented, instead of just rigidly working through processes. I particularly appreciate the contact with very different target groups: from schoolchildren and students to project partners, funding organizations, and political actors. This broad spectrum makes my work not only exciting, but also socially relevant.

In the future, I would like to continue my education in various directions – both professionally, e.g., in the area of funding management and agile project management, and personally, for example, in moderation, leadership, or strategic communication. I find it exciting to further develop my role and gain new perspectives that make my work even more effective.
