Fabian Hasler, BA

Graduate from Journalism & Public Relations (PR)

Fabian Hasler leads a double professional life. On the one hand, he is the Media Coordinator at FH JOANNEUM. On the other, he works as a commercial event and reportage photographer.

This is what I studied:

📷 My job: Freelance event photographer and media coordinator at FH JOANNEUM, Graz.

This is how you can reach me:

LinkedIn, employee portrait

website: www.eventfotograf-graz.at

email: fabian.hasler@eventfotograf-graz.at

Me in three emojis: 📸👨‍🍳😝

In my free time: I regularly wreak havoc in the kitchen while cooking.

When I was little, I wanted to be a digger driver, today I am a photographer.

If I hadn’t studied journalism and PR, I would be a vacuum cleaner salesman.

The coolest internship: In-house agency of an Austrian monastery.

The best food on campus: Bitki!

This is how I celebrated my graduation: With a small beer. At the FH forecourt. It wasn’t just one.

If my studies were an animal: a colorful, very communicative parrot.

This is what you are guaranteed to learn during your studies: How to ask the right questions.

The best course was: Media and Society.

Unnecessary knowledge? Media law issues such as: “If person A calls person B a fool, then…”

Make the most of your time with your colleagues outside of the university. It will fly by.

About my job

I got my job at FH JOANNEUM through a classic application process, while I got into professional photography more by chance – “Fabian, we’d like to buy your photos” was the sentence that got things rolling.
As a photographer, my work focuses on camera work and post-production, while as a media coordinator I am responsible for content creation on many levels.
My studies not only taught me the basics of photography and the art of visual storytelling, but also gave me a broad understanding of various communication professions. This background helps me today to better understand the different needs of the industry.
What do I love most about my job? The creative freedom, the beaming faces of my customers when they see their own pictures, and working with real originals. I’m not so keen on the accounting side of things, but it’s all part of the job.
Above all, my job requires an enjoyment of networking and the ability to work cleanly even under pressure. My personal career highlight was the first sale via my homepage without having been recommended. As my next project, I would like to pass on my enthusiasm for photography in the form of seminars.
