#21 Lebensg’schichten und Studiensachen: Patricija Mildner Munda
Patricija Mildner Munda ist Absolventin von Radiologietechnologie.
Patricija Mildner Munda travelled daily from Slovenia to Graz for her studies and completed her master’s degree at a different university after her bachelor’s at FH JOANNEUM.
What I studied:
My job: Radiographer at the LKH – University Hospital Graz, Department of Nuclear Medicine

In my free time: I like to spend time with my family and friends and do sports.
When I was little, I wanted to be a doctor or a German/maths teacher. Today, I am a radiology technologist.
If I hadn’t studied radiology technology, I would have been a nurse.
This was the coolest internship: LKH – University Hospital Graz, Department of Nuclear Medicine
This is how I celebrated my graduation: with my family and friends.
Tell us what your job is, without telling us what your job is: a professional who uses imaging techniques to visualize internal body structures and processes, while caring for patients and ensuring the safety and quality of the examinations.
If my studies were a song, it would be Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
If my studies were a superpower, it would be X-ray vision.
This is what you are guaranteed to learn during your studies: the theoretical and practical basics required for working in diagnostic imaging and therapy (radiotherapy, nuclear medicine). It is an interdisciplinary course of study that combines knowledge from medicine, physics, biology and technology.
The best courses were: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and the individual imaging techniques (X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine)
I struggled a bit with this course: Measurement and therapy methods in radio-oncology
For your studies, it is important to have a passion for medicine and technology and to be willing to engage in lifelong learning, as technologies are constantly evolving. Take every opportunity for practical experience and network with professionals early on to gain valuable insights into the work environment.
Patricija on her graduation day at FH JOANNEUM
After graduating from university as a radiology technician, I started working in the field of nuclear medicine at the University Hospital Graz, which I had already got to know during my internship. My main tasks include conducting and evaluating nuclear medicine examinations, administering radioactive substances and ensuring the quality of the equipment to ensure precise diagnoses.
During my studies, I acquired in-depth knowledge of nuclear medicine equipment, radiation protection and physical principles, as well as how to deal with patients in a safe and empathetic manner. I particularly appreciate the variety of tasks, the contact with patients and the interdisciplinary collaboration. Technical understanding, a sense of responsibility and communication skills are essential for the job.
A highlight of my career was successfully completing my Master’s in MedTech, with a focus on nuclear medicine, which has broadened my career prospects.
