Intensive but effective!

 

Want to learn a new language over the holidays, prepare intensively for your semester abroad or quickly get back up to speed with your favourite language? Then you have come to the right place! Our intensive courses have certainly earned their name. Over a period of 8 days, we will help you hone your language skills – all in a pleasant and motivating course setting! You will also be awarded 3 ECTS credits for the language course which count towards the Intercultural Skills Certificate (ISC). All our intensive courses are open to students AND staff of FH JOANNEUM! Curious?

Registration for the Intensive Courses in February 2021 opens on 14 December 2020 and is possible until 24 January for the Intensive Course Japanese and until 31 January 2021 for the English Warm-Up and the Intensive Course Spanish. Please note that the number of course places is limited!

INTENSIVE COURSES IN FEBRUARY 2021

SPANISH INTENSIVE COURSE, Beginners 1 (A1/1)

Achieve Spanish level A1/1 during an intensive 30-hour course. And the double advantage for you: after successfully completing the course, you can register for the semester follow-up course in ‘Spanish Beginners 2 (A1/2)’ and reach A1 level in just five months!

The intensive courses take place from 15-24 February 2021 on the following days and at the following times:

  • 15/02-19/02: 09:00-12:30 (incl. breaks)
  • 22/02-23/02: 09:00-12:30 (incl. breaks)
  • 24/02: 09:00-10:30 (final test)

ENGLISH WARM-UP 2

The English Warm-Up 2 take place from 15-24 February 2021 on the following days and at the following times:

Course Description: Do you want to brush up on your English and get a head start on your next semester? Then this English Warm-Up course is for you! We will review the main grammatical and syntactical concepts of intermediate English (such as present and past simple/progressive, present perfect, and future tenses; active vs. passive voice; adjective and adverbs; comparatives and superlatives; prepositions; if sentences; questions; word order; linking; etc.) and hone your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through interactive, learner-centered, and communicative exercises. Based on an evaluation of your personal strengths in English, you will also receive individualized feedback to develop your own plan for further self-study.

Short Bio: Eva-Maria Trinkaus is a university assistant at the Department of American Studies at the University of Graz, and the academic coordinator of the Age and Care Research Group Graz. She is an executive board member of the European Network in Aging Studies (ENAS). Holding both, a BA and MA degree from the University of Graz, she is currently working on her dissertation in American Literature with a focus on food, age, and place. Before teaching German Language and Culture classes at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, USA, as a Fulbright Foreign Language Associate, she worked in international relations at the University of Graz. In addition, she has been working as a freelance translator and language advisor since 2015, and has been teaching in adult education since 2010.
