Apeiron / Shoe

Shoes as a form of mobility.

Jesse Gabriel’s bachelor’s thesis for the Industrial Design degree programme focussed on improving walking quality.

The number of people who walk less than 4,000 steps a day is constantly increasing, which can lead to health problems. For the sake of health, everyone should walk more. A sufficient level is considered to be 8,000 steps per day or, even better, 10,000 steps per day.

This study is concerned with improving the quality of walking by means of mechanical cushioning or suspension. The special cushioning is intended to make walking more comfortable and encourage people to walk more distances every day. The cushioning element was made from sintered titanium in order to minimise the weight of the shoes. The unusual choice of material significantly improves the durability of the sole.
