In the digital age, where technologies shape our daily lives, the discussion around gender equality is more present than ever. Feminism meets digital innovations, and from this intersection arise new opportunities to bring social justice into the virtual world.
In this context, the ‘Bias Barometer’ was developed – a digital intervention operating at the intersection of feminism and technology. Driven by a passion for feminism and personal experience as a woman in coding, and inspired by the cyberfeminism of the 1990s, this project aimed to create an interactive platform. On this platform, media such as memes, books, TV shows, famous people, and brands were evaluated and visualised through the lens of feminist principles. The work delved into the historical development of cyberfeminism and the role of women in coding to foster understanding and awareness of gender equality in the digital space.
Based on the insights gained, a dynamic web application was developed using modern web technologies like React and Next.js, inviting users to participate actively and presenting the collected data in an interactive infographic. The work concludes with detailed project documentation and an evaluation of user experiences, providing valuable insights into the effectiveness and future development potential of the platform.
