Prototype for Chronic Pain Management

As part of a master’s project, a collaborative effort with JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH and the Medical University of Graz was undertaken within the N!CA project to ease the burden on nursing staff, resulting in a software prototype for chronic pain management.

Objectives

The goal was to create a prototype that could serve as the foundation for a future Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS), empowering nursing staff in pain management. To ensure an intuitive and user-friendly interface, the UI was designed using Figma. Throughout the process, workshops with a medical pain expert were conducted, providing valuable feedback on usability and clinical relevance.

Outcome

The prototype was implemented as a SMART on FHIR web application, incorporating functionalities for querying red flags, pain localization, intensity, and quality. It also enables entity extraction and retrieval of relevant data from the Hospital Information System (HIS).
