This master’s thesis explores how design strategies can contribute to systematically linking ecological sustainability with economic viability in product development. Building on a broad theoretical foundation, the thesis identifies key goal conflicts within the development process and derives specific ecological leverage points from them. The focus is not on designing concrete product solutions, but on developing a tool that supports designers as moderators in the early phases of projects. The tool helps bring together relevant stakeholders, make perspectives visible, and negotiate systemic interrelations collaboratively. An exemplary application in the form of a hypothetical case study – based on a sustainable concept for a fully automatic coffee machine – demonstrates the tool’s effectiveness.
