Personality in the design of characters

In today’s gaming industry, character design is a factor which cannot be overestimated. Creating a character which can not only be completely integrated into the game environment, but also exhibits enough individuality, is quite a challenge. However, this challenge has to be mastered if you want to design with the needs of the players in mind: open world games are nothing revolutionary any more, and the same goes for lively, intelligent and well-integrated non-player characters.
