Through regular questionnaires and sensor-based mobility measurements, the app provides valuable data on the healing process. Pre-op patients receive educational content via the app to inform them about the planned surgery, as well as personalized predictions of pain levels two years after the operation.
Objectives
The primary goal of the PROMISE app is to digitally support the pre- and postoperative care of shoulder patients. It aims to enable continuous documentation of pain and functionality, encourage more active patient involvement in their recovery process, and facilitate progress monitoring for physicians through objective data.
Results
The PROMISE app was developed in collaboration with the Schulthess Clinic in Zurich. Built with Flutter, the cross-platform app is available in German and English on iOS and Android. It combines PROM questionnaires for tracking the healing process, sensor-based mobility measurements for objective functional assessment, and AI-driven pain prediction. Future steps include usability analyses for the app’s older target demographic and the potential integration of camera-based mobility measurements to enhance accuracy. In the long run, the app has the potential to play a key role in advancing the digitalization of orthopedic care.
