Die Akkreditierung

With extensive expertise and experience in emission measurements, the Automotive Testing Lab has been a trusted partner to international premium automotive manufacturers for many years. We are permanently developing and optimising the measurements, specifications and processes used in the Automotive Testing Lab to continually enhance the quality of our services for our partners and customers.

The Automotive Testing Lab gradually introduced a comprehensive quality management system in accordance with EN 17025 ("General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories") back in 2000, since when it has been continually enhanced. In 2004 the Institute of Automotive Engineering was formally recognised according to EN 17025 by Akkreditierung Austria (Austria's National Accreditation Body), and has maintained this accreditation to the current day.

In 2020, the Automotive Testing Lab became the first testing lab in Austria to be accredited for exhaust gas measurements using portable emission measurement systems (PEMS). These measurements are taken in road traffic and are part of an EU testing standard for international type approval of passenger cars.

Current testing methods within the scope of accreditation:
Type I testing*:
  • Measurement of exhaust emissions of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles on the chassis dynamometer over the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC)
  • Measurement of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles on the chassis dynamometer over the NEDC
  • Measurement of exhaust emissions of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles according to the WLTP on the chassis dynamometer (WLTC) and on the road (RDE)
  • Measurement of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles on the chassis dynamometer according to the WLTP (WLTC)
  • Testing of the durability of pollution control devices (testing only, no ageing) over the NEDC
  • Testing of the durability of pollution control devices (testing only, no ageing) according to the WLTP (ISC, in-service conformity)
  • COP testing (Conformity of Production) according to the WLTP
Type IV testing*:
  • Measurement of evaporative emissions of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (SHED) according to the WLTP.
  • COP testing (Conformity of Production) according to the WLTP
  • Testing of in-use conformity of vehicles type-approved according to EC 715/2007.
EPA 40 CFR Part 86:
  • Onboard refueling vapor recovery (ORVR)
  • Measurement of evaporative emissions of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the two-day supplemental test. The measurement includes a hot soak test and a diurnal emission test over 48 hours (applies only to vehicles with petrol engines)
