The aim of this master’s thesis was the development of an autonomous solar ferry for Lake Neusiedl, optimized for the environmentally friendly transport of up to 25 passengers and 12 bicycles. The energy supply consists of 47 m² of highly efficient perovskite solar cells, recycled lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles with 70–80% remaining capacity, and a 10 kW small wind turbine that serves as a distinctive landmark within the landscape.
Operation is limited to the summer months, making use of the high solar yield during this period, supporting sustainable tourism, and addressing the challenges of fluctuating water levels through a special pontoon-boat design for shallow waters. This project promotes the acceptance and appreciation of the aesthetics of renewable energy, creates a sustainable attraction, and raises ecological awareness among tourists and day visitors.
