Katharina Feiertag founded her start-up based on her final-year project. Building a network of people who think differently from her at an early stage helped her in this.
Me in three emojis: 🧠🚀📲
In my free time: I go horse riding, design new products or enjoy a good cup of coffee whilst looking out over the city.
The coolest internship was: at Aurox, a tech start-up based in Graz – I got to work directly on digital health solutions.
When I was little, I wanted to be a paediatrician; now I’m digitising waiting rooms and taking the pressure off medical staff.
If I hadn’t studied eHealth, I would have become: a founder in a completely different field – probably in the education sector.
Here is where I spent my time after the lectures: going for walks or having a nice cup of coffee with my fellow students.
The best food on campus: I’d rather pop round to Martin Auer’s for a coffee.
My favorite spot on campus: outdoors, when it was warm.
This is how I celebrated my graduation: with a delicious cocktail in town.
Tell us what your job is, without telling us what your job is: I bring order to chaos – and make the invisible visible.
If my studies were an animal: an octopus – because you’re heading in lots of different directions at once (IT and management).
What you definitely learn in my study programme: how to juggle technical, medical and organisational matters.
The best course was: English 😉 – because you need English all the time, wherever you are.
Fun fact from my studies: The first app I programmed had more bugs than features – but it sparked my enthusiasm for software.
Don’t just study for the degree, but for real life – for the things that interest you. And: Start building contacts early on – especially with people who think differently from you.
I run a growing company that develops digital solutions for the healthcare sector; I am responsible for strategy, product and communications, and I support medical practices and hospitals through their digital transformation.
I founded Quickticket myself, based on my final-year project idea and following numerous discussions with doctors, developers and administrative professionals.
My degree equipped me with skills such as systems thinking, cross-functional communication and user-centred working, which enable me to implement effective solutions even under complex conditions.
What I particularly value about my job is the tangible impact, the daily opportunity to learn and the work at the intersection of purpose and systems. However, challenges such as unpredictable bureaucracy and slow decision-making processes in large institutions sometimes dampen my enthusiasm. Technical understanding, strong communication skills, resilience – and the ability to think in terms of solutions – are essential for my job.
Over 100 organisations across Germany, Austria and Switzerland use our solution – and we achieved this with a completely self-funded start-up. Our next steps are to scale up Quickticket, implement an AI module for emergency triage and launch a new product for staff planning.
