In April 2024, the audio guide was presented to the general public at the railway mission at Graz Central Station. The audio guide was created as part of a cooperation project between students of the master’s programme ‘Sound Design’ at the FH JOANNEUM and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, as well as Caritas Steiermark to mark its 100th anniversary. Called ‘Klangspuren der Nächstenliebe’ (Traces of Charity), the guide, which can be downloaded to a smartphone via a web application, takes you to places where Caritas is active in Graz. In a particularly innovative way, you can gain insights into the Marienstüberl, experience the work in the Carla shop or learn from the residents’ stories what it is like to live in an emergency shelter. “This year, we have set ourselves the goal of creating new places of charity where the work of Caritas can be felt,” said the deputy director.
The guide is designed to introduce many people to places of social engagement in a low-threshold way and is aimed, among others, at school classes, companies, donors and people interested in social issues. At the places presented, contemporary witnesses describe the fate of the people who have received support there through personal experiences and moving stories.
The audio guide project was supervised by lecturers Astrid Drechsler and Fabian Kühlein in terms of content, concept and technology. The background music was created by Hannah Albrecht, Astrid Drechsler, Mahtab Jafarzadeh Miandehi, Francisco Sylla and Georg Popp.
The voice recordings for the audio guide were produced at Lakewood Studio in Graz. The audio guide is available via a smartphone app (@orpheodeutschlandgmbh) and can be used both as a companion on the routes of the institutions and as a virtual tour at any location.
