GEMMA KLIMA!

GEMMA KLIMA Projekt

GEMMA KLIMA Projekt

Climate action is successful when as many people as possible participate. This is especially key in communities and cities, which can directly influence only a small portion of local emissions. But how can we get more people excited about climate action?

The difficulty of this task and the slow progress of social change are not solely due to a lack of knowledge. The reasons run deeper. That is why GEMMA KLIMA is applying new methods and putting interdisciplinary insights from behavioral psychology, communication science, and participatory and coaching approaches into practice. New forms of collaboration between politics, government, civil society, and academia are also being tested.

As a first step, GEMMA KLIMA is supporting the formation of communities in the cities of Graz, Judenburg, and Weiz that want to work together to pilot new solutions in the areas of mobility, energy, consumption, and food. Whether it’s a cultural association, a sports club, a volunteer fire department, a neighborhood group, or a seniors’ club—any group that wants to take action together can participate. GEMMA KLIMA supports them with valuable knowledge and practical tips and regularly highlights best practices and interesting initiatives.

Project partner

GEMMA KLIMA is based on the three-year research project “GEMMA K!,” which is supported by the climate pioneer cities Graz, Judenburg, and Weiz; Land Steiermark, Energie Agentur Steiermark, StadtLABOR, Universität Graz and FH JOANNEUM.
