This master’s thesis explores how a music controller can be developed that focuses on the experiences of non‒white non‒male music producers and technology developers. The literature reviewed in this master’s thesis has shown that people who do not identify as white males still face prejudice and are unable to achieve the level of success that their white male counterparts typically achieve. This master’s thesis emphasises the importance of reducing inequalities and breaking down prejudice against non‒white tech enthusiasts. With a safer learning environment and mutual acceptance, many more people would actively participate in the development of technology. As a result, this master’s thesis documents Esma Kurbegovics journey as a female developer in the Austrian startup scene and should serve as a guide for anyone who wants to build their own interactive controllers and found a music technology startup.
