Student projects

Practical projects play a key role in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science. Students apply their knowledge of programming, software development, web technologies, databases, IT infrastructure, cloud computing, AI and IT security directly to real-world tasks. In doing so, they learn not only technical content but also cost-effectiveness, teamwork, project management, communication and solution-oriented working – important skills for their future careers.

Project-based learning runs throughout the degree programme over several semesters: as early as the first semester, formats such as the Barcamp encourage collaborative working. In the second semester, programming and IT skills are consolidated during the Bootcamp. From the third semester onwards, practical formats such as hackathons or a dual work placement phase follow, and in the fourth semester, the Start-up Project or a further practical phase takes place. In the fifth semester, students deepen their specialisation through a programme-specific project; in the sixth semester, they undertake a practical project, a work placement or a dual practical phase.

Through projects, practical placements and the Bachelor’s thesis, students can collaborate with companies whilst still studying. This leads to valuable contacts for work placements, career entry, potential job offers or practical topics for the Bachelor’s thesis. The link between the degree programme and the business world is further strengthened, particularly in the dual and part-time study formats.
