My Studies
Dank des hohen E-Learning Anteils verbringen Sie im berufsbegleitenden Bachelorstudium Informatik maximal zwei Freitage und zwei Samstage im Monat an der FH JOANNEUM

Start your career in IT whilst working

The part-time Bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science combines a sound IT education with the flexibility to balance your studies with your career. Thanks to 60 per cent e-learning, you will attend classes on campus at FH JOANNEUM for a maximum of two Fridays and two Saturdays per month. The programme equips you with skills in software development, IT systems, cloud computing and security, as well as future-oriented technologies such as AI and data science; from the third semester onwards, you will specialise in one of three study tracks – Full Stack Development, IT Operations & Cloud Infrastructure or Web & App Development – depending on your professional interests.

What will I learn on the programme?

Developing software and implementing digital solutions

Programming, software engineering, web technologies, APIs, databases and modern development processes are integral parts of the curriculum. Students learn how to turn an idea into a working application.

Understanding IT systems, the cloud and security

This area covers networks, Linux, IT infrastructure, cloud computing, virtualisation, system administration and cybersecurity. This enables students to understand how digital systems are operated, secured and scaled.

Applying future technologies in practice

This includes the fundamentals of AI, data science, machine learning, project management, hackathons, start-up projects, work placements and a Bachelor’s thesis. The focus is on applying new knowledge directly to real-world IT tasks.

What can I specialise in during my degree?

Study track Full Stack Development

You’ll develop modern software solutions from the initial idea through to the finished product – covering front-end, back-end, databases, APIs and DevOps. You’ll learn to design, implement and continuously refine applications professionally. AI-supported software development, web technologies and practical projects will specifically prepare you for in-demand roles within software teams.

Study track IT Operations & Cloud Infrastructure

You will operate, automate and secure modern IT and cloud infrastructures – from server and network systems through to cloud services, DevOps and Infrastructure as Code. Cloud computing, IT operations, system administration and practical project work will specifically prepare you for in-demand roles in the infrastructure and cloud sectors.

Study track Web & App Development

You will develop user-centred web and mobile applications – from the initial idea through to design and implementation, right up to the finished digital solution. You will learn how to professionally design and develop interactive web applications, Android and iOS apps, and e-commerce solutions. User-centred design, web development, mobile app development and practical projects will specifically prepare you for in-demand roles in web, app and product development.

tip

Maximum flexibility in your computer science degree programme: Within your chosen study track, you can switch between full-time, part-time and dual study options at the end of each semester. This allows you to tailor your studies to suit your current personal and professional circumstances.
