My semester at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve.

At the start of my course, I knew that I wanted to spend a semester abroad. When the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance and a few months later, I was pedalling through North Rhine Westphalia on a Dutch bike. I chose to study at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve where I attended the Sustainable Agriculture course. Since the course was held in English, I was able to develop my (English) language skills and make contacts all over the world. The lectures were very different: in one, I analysed the behaviour of llamas in zoos, in another we planned a village store and in another, we discussed the impact of animal husbandry on climate. We also went on excursions to agricultural businesses and trade fairs and conducted soil analyses on upland moors. Thanks to the university greenhouse, I developed a taste for Central European bananas which are harvested when ripe. There was also no shortage of leisure activities. Regular events were held on campus, making it easy to get to know other students. I am often asked why I ‘only’ went to Germany for my semester abroad. While I was not sure about the decision myself initially, I am now very happy about my choice. Seize the opportunity and see for yourself!
