Admissions

What is the admissions process?

The admissions process consists of:

  • a complete written application via the FH JOANNEUM online portal ‘JOANNEUM online’
  • an interview with the admissions committee (incl. self-presentation and subject-specific tasks)
  • the overall assessment of the previous professional qualification
  • an assessment of practical work experience in the field of social work

The form of the application is included in the assessment.

The weighting of the individual parts of the admission procedure is as follows:

  • Admission interview (incl. self-presentation): 40%
  • Subject-specific assignment (presentation of the outline of ideas for the Master’s thesis): 15%
  • Previous education: 20%
  • Professional experience: 20%
  • Form of the application documents: 5%

Subject-specific task during the interview

In the form of a short presentation of an outline of ideas for your potential Master’s thesis (max. 5 minutes), we would like to get to know your previous experience with theories and methods of social (labour) research, your scientific working methods and your specialist knowledge in connection with the selected topic.

The personal interview

All participants will be invited to a personal interview.

During the interview, you will have the opportunity to present your specialist knowledge as well as your motivation, suitability and aptitude for the programme and the profession in the form of a self-presentation (max. 10 minutes). You will have an interview with the admissions committee of the degree programme, who will not be familiar with the written documents you have submitted. The interview usually lasts around 30 minutes in total.

Tip

The interview gives you the opportunity to demonstrate both your knowledge in the field and your motivation, suitability and talent for the chosen course of study and a subsequent career in this field. It’s in your hands to convince with your CV, your interest in the course content and your personality.

Assessment of previous education and professional experience

As additional criteria for the admission decision, professional experience as well as the professional training and further education which appear in your written application documents are taken into account.
