Students learn subject-specific requirements and building forms of industrial construction as a specific area of structural engineering. The knowledge imparted includes all structural engineering as well as static and structural design knowledge about the completion details of halls and power plant structures in the classical building maters - concrete, steel and wood

On the basis of a specific building construction project all necessary information and the systematic approach in the planning and implementation of economically viable buildings will be developed. Structural design of a construction together with an architectural design as a complete model. Development of load prediction methods according to current standards, idealization and modeling of the structure with simulation using suitable software. Documentation and verification of the computer analysis. Dimensioning of the support elements and detailed elaboration of joining technology for both solid and skeleton structures

The subject matter of building regulations and technical guidelines for structural fire protection as well as relevant standards and laws are imparted.
Using case studies, possible solutions are jointly developed and fire protection concepts discussed. A guest lecture by a specialist from the area of flammable problematic substances and their fire behaviour reinforce the practical relevance.

Use of renovation systems and methods for existing structures taking into consideration any possible legal conditions, such as the protection of historic monuments; renovation of constructive special construction components of historic structures, constructive and static principles.
Sustainability and Life Cycle Costs | Integrated course (iL) | Coursecode: 140234104 Energy-efficient Building Planning 3 SWS 4 ECTS
Energy requirements for the construction and use of buildings, comfort and user satisfaction. Planning principles for building shell and building technology. Calculation methods for energy efficiency. Energy efficient heat production, development of highly energy-efficient buildings (new construction) in shape and structure. Improving energy efficiency in existing buildings (building renovation).

Cost-planning of the entire life cycle, structure and components of the life cycle costs (construction and follow-up costs including operation costs, maintenance costs and repair costs). Determination of the life cycle and service life. Norms, computational models, prognosis scenarios, practical implementation of life cyle costs calculation. Significance and comparison of results of life cycle cost calculations.

Using common building materials for load-bearing purposes as a starting point, the special features of materials used currently and in the future, such as plastics, textiles and composites are presented.
Based on a systematic review of the materials and their production and application, use cases are shown from the construction industry.

As a foundation, a systematic overview is given of construction systems and supporting structures in wood construction. A more profound knowledge of derived timber products and joining technology will also be developed. This will be consolidated by exercises and practical use cases.

Using legal principles as a basis, the safety objectives in the form of fire prevention concepts are formulated. Subsequently, methods for calculatory proof according to pertinent norms are introduced and wood, steel and reinforced concrete are shown in a way which is relevant to practice using case studies.

Providing the necessary physical principles to detailed calculation methods in physics. Simulation as a planning tool for integrated planning. Awareness of various fields of application:
a) building component simulation: thermal bridges, combined heat and moisture transfer
b) Thermal building simulation: thermal performance of buildings taking into consideration the building shell and building technology as a tool for detailed and flexible model structure. Climate and use.
c) Acoustic Simulation: Sound propagation in rooms / outdoors
d) Light simulation: natural and artificial lighting, location-dependent brightness, daylight factors, daylight autonomy, lighting energy demand. Use of simple simulation programs of practical examples.
