The coolest internship was: Agricultural work placement at Wippel Kartoffel
I spent my semester abroad in: Prague, Czech Republic
My favorite spot on campus: Courtyard by the raised beds
This is how I celebrated my graduation: With your partner, family and friends
If my studies were a animal, it would be: A chameleon – the degree programmes were not designed to provide in-depth knowledge of a single subject, but rather to offer a broad range of subjects across many fields, and they fostered the ability to adapt quickly to new challenges.
What you definitely learn in my study programme: Critical thinking!
The best course was: Laboratory practicals in food chemistry and microbiology
This course was a challenge for me: Biochemistry
This is what I would like to share with students or prospective students:
With your fellow students at the preparatory college, everyday life at the university of applied sciences becomes easier and more fun! Make the most of this time – it goes by quicker than you think.
As an ESG delegate, I am responsible for the company-wide coordination of all sustainability issues, taking into account current regulatory requirements. This includes strategic planning in collaboration with senior management, the cross-functional implementation of our ESG objectives, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. A particular focus is on producing the sustainability report, updating sustainability ratings, and the systematic collection and processing of CO₂ data to increase transparency and continuously improve our carbon footprint.
During my degree, I learnt to take a holistic approach to sustainability – considering the interplay between the environment, the economy and society. The dual Master’s programme enabled me to apply my knowledge directly in practice, for example in product development. I learnt how to identify, read and correctly interpret EU regulations, and acquired process engineering expertise relating to plant operations, which stands me in good stead in my day-to-day work. I have also become aware of the importance of hygiene and quality standards, as well as their implications. My all-round knowledge is particularly valuable: recognising connections, linking processes and presenting myself with confidence – a degree programme that provides a broad foundation and really helps in the job.
What I value most about my job is the freedom to shape things: I have the opportunity to actively drive sustainability initiatives forward within the company. The variety of tasks keeps my day-to-day work interesting, as ESG covers many different areas and requires collaboration with a wide range of departments. This means I’m constantly getting to know new people and specialist areas. What’s more, my work is at the cutting edge, has a clear purpose and gives me the feeling that I’m making a positive contribution – that motivates me greatly.
It can sometimes be challenging to feel like a ‘one-woman show’, as internal professional dialogue is hardly possible and I’m the only person in the company with in-depth knowledge of sustainability issues. Professional dialogue therefore mainly takes place externally.
In my job, alongside specialist knowledge, the ability to work in a team and empathy are particularly important. I work with many different departments and people at various levels of the organisation. It’s crucial to be able to adapt well to others and find viable solutions together. At the same time, flexibility is essential, as laws and requirements are constantly changing. A willingness to engage in continuous professional development is absolutely essential in this field.
A particular highlight of my career path was finding a job that interests me and really makes sense to me, just a short time after graduating. I am particularly pleased that I was able to help develop sustainability initiatives within the company right from the start and that I am able to take on responsibility as an expert in this field.
I would like to continue working in the field of sustainability in the future, complete my current training to become a qualified sustainability manager, and in this way make my contribution to a more sustainable future.💚
