Both are taking part in international study programs in Graz and Kapfenberg, broadening their horizons academically and personally. And both their home-universities are EU4Dual partner universities.
Mervi comes from Savonia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, where she studies Service Design in her third year. She joined FH JOANNEUM through the Global Business Program studying International Management, which she sees as an ideal complement to her design studies. “I believe that business studies are a great complement to service design, helping me gain a deeper understanding of how the business world works,” says Mervi.
During her semester abroad, she has already gained valuable insights she can apply to her field and hopes to find an internship afterwards. Besides studying, she enjoys exploring Austria and nearby countries by train and immersing herself in the local culture. “The university atmosphere is inspiring, and the staff are always friendly and supportive. I’ve loved discovering Graz, experiencing the local culture, and learning the German language!”
A new perspective
Asier studies Energy Engineering at Mondragon Unibertsitatea in Spain. At FH JOANNEUM, he is enrolled in classes at the institute of Energy, Transport and Environmental Management in Kapfenberg as well as a Industrial Mechatronics course, allowing him to approach familiar topics from fresh angles. “I wanted to experience how another country approaches topics like transportation and energy management,” Asier explains. “I’m learning about subjects not covered at my home university and contributing my own perspective to discussions.” Beyond academics, Asier appreciates how easy it is to travel from Austria to other European destinations and is eager to discover cultural and lifestyle differences first-hand.“ It’s great how convenient it is to travel to many countries from here — it really broadens your view of Europe.”
