John Crepeau’s interest in Austria and the study programs and research work of the Institute of Aviation led him to apply for the Fulbright Program at FH JOANNEUM. He is a professor of mechanical engineering at his “home” university, the University of Idaho in the USA. “My research work is primarily focused on heat transfer and fluid mechanics. I have done work related to areas of interest to NASA, especially in high speed flows,” says John. During the four months he will spend in Graz with his wife until the end of June 2025, he will be teaching Aerodynamics to students on the Bachelor of Aviation course and Applied Heat Transfer to students on the Master of Aviation course at FH JOANNEUM.
In the field of research, he is assisting the group which is looking to use cryogenic fuels for aviation: “I am looking at the best ways to optimize the design of systems to most efficiently use liquid hydrogen as aviation fuel, ”explains John.
John Crepeau knows and likes Austria very much: “I’ve already been here three times and spent time in Vienna and Klagenfurt. There I researched the Austrian physicist Josef Stefan, who was born in Klagenfurt and later became a professor of physics at the University of Vienna.” John adds: “My wife and I have really enjoyed our time so far in Graz and in Austria. Graz is a beautiful city, and not too big. Everyone at FH JOANNEUM, faculty, staff, and students, have been very kind to us, and they have been so helpful in getting us settled and accustomed to our life here.”
Fulbright at FH JOANNEUM
FH JOANNEUM has been a Fulbright Austria member for many years and only accepts professors in technical disciplines. Among other things, this is expected to further internationalize technical degree courses, provide access to high-quality academic knowledge, introduce different perspectives and familiarize students with academic standards.
