Better together

Co-creation as a tool for designing co-experiences in exhibitions

Better together

Whether co-living, co-housing or co-working: communal living and working models are taking up more and more space in our everyday society. The need for a “collective togetherness” is also reflected in the discussion about the future of museums. In this master's thesis, the two terms co-creation and co-experiences are evaluated in the museum and exhibition context.

Both terms address social interaction – once during the collective working process and once in relation with experiences. Both factors are important in the context of exhibitions, as they have a direct influence on the exhibition design. However, they are not considered well enough in the current museum research. This work attempts to close the research gap and to create a basis for discussion on the connection between co-creative design and social interaction in exhibitions. The intention is to exert a lasting influence on creative work in the cultural and museum sector and thus to make a valuable contribution to our future society.
