How can building culture in rural areas be communicated in a way that is visible, accessible and engaging? Students of the Master’s degree programme in Communication and Exhibition Design, study track Exhibition Design explored this question as part of a collaboration with LandLuft – Association for the Promotion of Building Culture in Rural Areas. On 24 June 2026, they presented their design concepts at the event “LandLuft meets Education” at TU Wien and discussed their ideas with students, lecturers and representatives of the association.
The project focused on developing concepts for the new travelling exhibition “Use what is already there!”. The exhibition highlights municipalities and people who create new perspectives for their living environments and for building culture in rural areas by making conscious and resource-efficient use of existing structures and resources.
The students developed a range of exhibition concepts for a flexible, robust and accessible travelling exhibition. Their designs respond to the key requirements of the brief: easy handling, a modular structure, interactive elements and a visual approach that sparks curiosity and encourages visitors to engage actively with the content.
Four distinct exhibition concepts were created, each demonstrating different approaches to spatial, content-based and visual communication. At the “LandLuft meets Education” event, the concepts were presented alongside projects by students from TU Wien. The afternoon focused on the exchange between education and professional practice, as well as new perspectives on adaptive reuse, local development and the responsible use of existing buildings and resources.
