Open Access and secondary publications
Open Access means providing unrestricted online access to academic information for everyone at no cost. For the FH JOANNEUM the dissemination of knowledge is a major issue, therefore we provide support with open access publishing for employees of the FH JOANNEUM.
Primary publication
You have written a scientific article and would like it to get published in an scientific journal?
Open access publishing offers a number of advantages:
- unlimited visibility
- facilitation of knowledge exchange within the academic community and promotion of research cooperations
- increased citation frequency
- exploitation rights remain with the author
These are the options for open access publishing:
- Choose a quality tested open access journal (Gold Open Access) from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) to avoid untrustworthy publishers and journals. In case of doubt, please consult us!
- Please use our current open access agreements (Gold and Hybrid Open Access) to avoid article processing charges (APCs). Currently the FH JOANNEUM has negotiated agreements for open access publishing with ACM, Elsevier, Emerald, IEEE, Springer and IWA publishing. Are you interested? Please consult us or see the details for the respective agreements.
- Additionally, the publishing programme of the FH JOANNEUM is available for publishing your research findings.
Secondary publication
If you have already published an article in a scientific journal, you could make it available to a broader readership by using a repository (=publicly accessible document server).
Please check your journal’s archiving policy at SHERPA/Romeo. If secondary publication is allowed, you could upload your article to a disciplinary repository or to our institutional repository ePUB to provide access to a broad international audience (Green Open Access).
Publications by members of FH JOANNEUM can be found on our publication server ePUB. This repository is listed in OpenDOAR, the global directory of open access repositories. This means that most of the uploaded files are also indexed by the major search engines GoogleScholar and BASE - which further increases the visibility and findability of your publications.
How the library can support you
Register for an ORCID-iD
An ORCID-iD (open researcher and contributor identifier) is a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities. ORCID-iDs are often required for funding or communicating with publishers.Allocation of DOIs A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a persistent identifier used to identify a digital publication. If you need a DOI, please contact the library.
Quality check of OA-Journals (predatory publishing / journals) We will review the journal you want to publish in for you in case you have any doubts.
Journal selection support (OA cooperations) Our cooperations with various publishing houses allow you to publish your articles without paying article processing charges (APCs). Make use of our cooperations! We will gladly provide you with the necessary information.
Support with publication process (workflow) In order to be acknowledged as affiliated with the FH JOANNEUM by our cooperating publishers, some details must be taken into account (e.g. the corresponding author has to be affiliated with the FH JOANNEUM). For further information, please contact us.
Embargo period check If you want to make use of the Green OA-option, we can check the embargo period for secondary publication for you.
