In addition to leadership skills, topics such as “Tools for Data Analytics”, “Operations Management”, “Industrial Management” and “Process Technology” are taught in the first semester. As part of an industrial research project in the second semester, students lead a project team and work on a task in a national or international company. From the third semester onwards, students enter one of the master’s specialisations.

What specialisations are available?

Within the specialisation field of “Smart Production and Services”, you will acquire additional skills at the highly relevant intersection of production and information technology. The focus here is on technological foundations such as cyber-physical systems and enterprise information systems. Additionally, you will deepen your understanding of the digital transformation of companies and the resulting new processes and business models, especially in the area of service engineering. The overarching goal is to enhance the competitiveness of domestic manufacturing companies through increased efficiency, greater flexibility, and the implementation of innovative business models. During your studies, you will actively participate in the conception and implementation of Industry 4.0. For this purpose, the Smart Production Lab is available to you, one of Austria’s most significant teaching and research facilities for Industry 4.0, located on the Kapfenberg campus.

Our degree programme optimally prepares you for management positions in logistics and technical purchasing with an international focus and enables you to optimise a company’s supply chain. During your Master’s degree programme, you will learn about logistics management, strategic purchasing, supplier management and the development of modern information and control systems for materials management. But that is only one side of the spectrum. On the other side of the “negotiating table” is technical sales as part of the Supply Chain Engineering study track. As part of the Master’s degree programme, you will acquire the necessary know-how and methodological skills to be successful as a business-oriented engineer in everyday working life. You will cover a broad spectrum, from the creation of sales and turnover plans to the fine-tuning of distribution channels. You will also be involved in the development of (technical) marketing concepts, which serve as the basis for national and international marketing and sales strategies.

The “Business Transformation” study track is a combination of the two other specialisations “Smart Production and Services” and “Supply Chain Engineering”. Each of these specialisations consists of two parts: a methodological-technological part and a part that looks at the transformation of the respective topic in companies and processes. “Business Transformation” combines these two aspects of transformation. It focuses on sustainable and digital production as well as innovative production methods from the “Smart Production and Services” specialisation and on digital supply chain management and transformation management from the “Supply Chain Engineering” specialisation. Students learn not only how to optimise the technological and methodological aspects of production and the supply chain, but also how to successfully implement these changes in companies and transform processes. Topics such as sustainability, digitalisation, innovation management and simulation are central.
