The first semester focuses on topics of leadership competences, supply chain engineering, lean production and either industrial management & engineering or production technologies & organisation. As part of an industrial research project in the second semester students are required to manage a project team to solve a specific task in a national or international company. From the third semester onward, you can choose to specialise in Supply Chain Engineering, including procurement and sales, or in Smart Production & Services.

You can specialise in the following fields:

Supply Chain Engineering

The Master’s programme will prepare you for leadership positions with an international profile in logistics and technical procurement, equipping you to design the ideal supply chain for any business. You will specialise in subject areas including logistics management, strategic procurement and supplier management, as well as the development of information and control systems used in materials management.

Technical sales sits on the opposite side of the “bargaining table”, and this is the second focus of the Supply Chain Engineering specialisation. On the programme you will acquire the expertise and methodology which industrial engineers working in sales need on a daily basis, including sales and turnover planning, preparing offers, and optimising sales channels.

Furthermore, you will also learn to develop the (technical) marketing concepts which form the basis for national and international marketing and sales strategies.

Smart Production & Services

In the Smart Production and Services specialisation you will acquire additional skills in the much-discussed interface between production and IT. The emphasis here lies on the technological requirements such as cyber-physical systems and business information systems. A second focus in this specialisation is digital transformation in companies, and the resultant new processes and business models this generates – the buzzword is service engineering. This can, and should, strengthen the competitiveness of production companies through greater efficiency, increased flexibility and new business models.

During the programme you will actively participate in the conceptual design and transformation of Industry 4.0. You will have also access to one of Austria’s largest teaching and research factories – the Smart Production Lab – at the Kapfenberg campus.

Study mode

During the semesters lectures are held from Mondays to Fridays. One or two days will be free of classes, depending on the semester. E-learning units are planned individually by the lecturers. The fourth semester involves only few lectures at the start of the semester as our students will primarily be working on their Master’s thesis.

Self-study

The amount of self-study always depends on the student’s own level of commitment and ambition.

Attendance

An 80% attendance level is required in all courses. Should a student’s attendance fall below this level then they will be required to complete extra work in order to make up for this absence. The head of degree programme will determine the form this extra work will take, e.g. an additional seminar paper. Where there is any ambiguity, the head of institute will decide on exceptions to the attendance requirement. Furthermore, students may be excused from the 80% attendance rule for medical reasons when a medical certificate is provided.
