Admissions
Do I meet the admission requirements?
If you want to apply for this Master’s degree programme you need to have
- a relevant Bachelor’s degree or
- equivalent qualification.
Applicants must provide evidence of proficiency in German at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Information Design from FH JOANNEUM or an equivalent Austrian or foreign degree in the fields of design, architecture, interior design, restoration, conservation, stage design, marketing, media and graphic design are considered to meet the admission requirements.
Some degrees in humanities or arts or the completion of relevant non-degree courses (studii irregulari) also qualify you to apply for the Master’s degree programme.
The minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in the following humanities or arts fields from a university, university of technology or university of art and design.
- Art history
- History
- Folklore
- Cultural studies
- Philosophy
- Architecture
- Interior design
- Design
- Stage design
- Restoration
- Conservation
Applicants who have not completed one of the above fields of study must provide evidence of at least 80 ECTS points in the following key areas:
- Basic design
- Basic graphics
- Basic media design
- Social and management skills
- Cultural and social conditions
- Scientific method
- Art and design history
- Fundamental didactic principles
The degree must be from a recognised institution of postsecondary education in Austria or abroad.
In ambiguous cases, the head of degree programme will decide whether the candidate meets the admission requirements. You will be notified of the decision once we have received your full set of application documents.
