What I did:
My main role was to compile formwork plans for offers and tenders. This largely related to plans for private villas but I also worked on office complexes and shopping centres. Another field of responsibility was to coordinate project files between the Technical Department where I worked and the Sales and Operation Department. I also visited building sites when there were problems or uncertainties in my field of activity. However I preferred the office as a workplace to being outside in temperatures of up to 48 degrees Celsius!
Why I enjoyed my internship:
Around half of the population of Oman are foreign guest workers and therefore the country’s culinary variety is enormous. A lunch break could therefore be a real culinary adventure. In particular, I enjoyed working in a multi-cultural environment with 33 colleagues from 10 different countries. The thing which sticks with me in particular from my internship was the short but unforgettable leisure time I spent there. The company Doka Schalungstechnik provided me with a car at weekends which I used to take trips to the wadis, to the desert or to the sea.

What I learned
Of course, I learnt a lot about the essential formwork technology used in the construction industry. Most of all, I benefited from interacting with people of different cultures, religions, habits and customs.
My biggest success / My greatest experience
My biggest success was to plan a supporting wall formwork up to 8m high which could also be adapted to a different height, if need be. I was independently responsible for the complete planning process, the structural analysis and the materials purchasing. The new customer was extremely satisfied with my work and decided to order additional formwork material from Doka.
How I secured the internship
The Doka company was often represented at events such as guest talks at my old school and FH JOANNEUM. This is how I became aware of the internship and submitted my application directly to the HR department at the headquarters in Amstetten.
What I want to do in the future
I really enjoyed working at Doka Muscat LLC. I can recommend the company and the country of Oman for an internship or a longer stay abroad. I am currently seeking an international career. My internship at Doka played a key role in this.
