Specialization in Digital Transformation in Healthcare

At the beginning of the degree programme, there is a small introductory project in which you will get to know other professional groups and their requirements as well as eHealth topics. You will also start with a course designed especially for you, in which you will learn an overview of the key technological foundations for eHealth. You will not be trained as a software or database developer, but you should gain a good overview of the technological requirements that you will need for the rest of your studies.
From the second semester onwards, you will delve deeper into digital aspects of primary care as well as case and disease management, business process management and clinical pathways. In a project course, you will work on specific case studies on digital transformation in healthcare in collaboration with healthcare facilities and relevant software companies and research institutions. You will complete the fourth semester with a relevant Master’s thesis.

Teaching focus areas

In addition to the specialization subjects, there are the following teaching focuses, which are dealt with together with the study track Digital Health Technologies. Teaching is provided by highly qualified internal lecturers as well as industry experts from the management of healthcare and software companies, research, universities, etc.

Health informatics

You will learn about the connection between medical and nursing documentation (ICD-10, LOINC, DICOM, DRG, CDISC, ICPC-2, NANDA, ICF, ATC, …), semantic interoperability (HL7-CDA, FHIR, SNOMED-CT, IHE, …) and modern eHealth applications. On the subject of Electronic Health Records, you will be given an overview of international trends and the Austrian ELGA concept in particular. User-centered design as well as data protection and data security topics complete this focus.

Health sciences and forms of care

You will consolidate your knowledge of the health application domain through subjects such as public health, evidence-based medicine, epidemiology and clinical research. You will deal with technical and procedural aspects of telehealth applications.

Data science and artificial intelligence

Data analysis, business intelligence and machine learning concepts form the basis for further studies, in particular for the interpretation and independent creation of scientific publications.

Management

Change management, remuneration systems in the healthcare sector, IT law and software as a medical product are offered to acquire management skills.

Academic qualification

With Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency (CALP), you will acquire academic and English language skills for your further studies. There is also a Journal Club in the second and third semesters, where you will work with lecturers on current relevant publications. The final Master’s thesis and the accompanying seminar round off your academic training. The Cochrane Library is available free of charge for more intensive study and evidence-based analysis.
