Martina König has been appointed interim head of the Institute of Journalism and Digital Media

Martina König has been the new interim head of the Institute of Journalism and Digital Media since 1 March 2026. An experienced university lecturer, course director and Vice-Rector (FH) at FH JOANNEUM, she has over 25 years of teaching and professional experience in higher education and has been closely associated with FH JOANNEUM for many years.

Martina König has been working at the Institute of Journalism and Digital Media since 2017, where she heads the part-time postgraduate Master’s programme in Technical Documentation and Content Management. In addition to her teaching activities in the field of design and communication, she is a regular speaker at national and international conferences. From 2016 to 2024, she served as the elected representative of the teaching and research staff on the FH JOANNEUM Board. She has been Vice-Rector of FH JOANNEUM since 2024.

As interim head of the Institute of Journalism and Digital Media, which currently has around 200 students, she succeeds the long-standing head Heinz M. Fischer, who retired at the end of February 2026. Martina König has also taken over from him as interim head of the Journalism and Public Relations (PR) and Content Strategy degree programmes, as well as the Master’s programme in Public Communication.

In her new role, Martina König aims to further develop the curriculum in line with current trends and to strengthen networking between industry representatives and the university in a targeted manner.
