Introduction to e-learning and online platforms; online-moderation, online-socialization; introduction to colleagues and day-to-day life at the institute. Study methods, literature research, use of data-base; citation, scientific writing; online library catalogues.
Play and Creativity | Seminar (SE) | Coursecode: K_JUA_1890025_S1_01 Play and Creativity 3 SWS 5 ECTS
Introduction to basic theory of game-based and adventure-based practice. Introduction of methods and exercises which will enable the participants to get a founded knowledge and reflect upon it. Students will learn the objectives of games and their use. The introduced methods can be applied in children and youth work as well as in community work.
Theory and practice of youth work | Practical (UE) | Coursecode: K_JUA_1890025_S1_05 Practice and self-reflection 1 SWS 1 ECTS
Based on their own professional experience, students will reflect their own practical experience with theoretical concepts in a confidential group setting.

Basic knowledge regarding concepts, methods and traditions of child and youth work as well as community work. Overview of professional fields. Organizing day-to-day professional life in agencies working with children, youth and families.

Introduction to theory of childhood and youth; basic knowledge regarding prevention and preventative measures and how to apply them in practice.

Overview of the Austrian legal system; overview of current legal situation regarding children and youth (e.g. children's rights, current legal situation of migrants, youth protection, juvenile penal law etc.). Rights and obligations of children and youth.

2. Semester

Communication and Consulting | Seminar (SE) | Coursecode: K_JUA_1890025_S2_01 Communication and Consulting 3 SWS 5 ECTS
Basic tools for successful communication regarding the work with children and youth. Introduction of coundseling methods and practical training of counseling situations to be used in the professional field of working with children and youth. Peer work and networking.

Basics of learning through research and empirical social research. Introduction and finding your own topic to conduct a student project.
Self-experience and supervision | Practical (UE) | Coursecode: K_JUA_1890025_S2_04 Self-exploration 4 SWS 5 ECTS
The objective in this course is to prepare, conduct and reflect a 2-day outdoor activity together with two coaches; learning about group phases such as how to arrive in a group, being present, and leaving. Reflecting upon own experience and group dynamics.

Overview of legal situation for professionals working with children, youth and in a community context; data protection and liablities in the professional field; confidentiality; duty to report; supervisory obligations.

Basic theories of biography research and sensitizing the diversity connected to it. Basic professional terms, theories, concepts and models regarding gender, body and sexuality, inclusion and constructs of society.

Introduction of methods in group-, family- and community work. Various traditions of community work (e.g. networking); social space and socio-cultural approaches; inclusion of social systems in community work; context of youth work regarding information, open youth work, youth work in clubs, child and youth protection services.

Conducting a case-based study: finding a topic, research question, research method, theoretical references. Presentation and paper of student projects.
Relationship work and social diagnostics | Lecture/Practical (IL) | Coursecode: K_JUA_1890025_S3_04 Relationship work/social diagnostics 3 SWS 5 ECTS
Building rapport and counseling; how to see a case; diagnostic methods, value of reflection of own practice; lecture: psychology of age - special focus on identity formation in childhood and youth. How can psychology contribute to pedagogical settings; models of social interaction. Special disciplines such as psychology and psychotherapy.

Regional and national law; implementation of legal regulations regarding child and youth protection; national and international law regarding child protection, youth protection, education and mandatory education; legal regulations of working with youth in individual and group context.

Different life contexts of children and youth and related problems such as crises, trauma, drugs and addiction; overview of child and youth work
