Student projects

Collaboration within project teams is a key factor in the success of the Industrial Management programme. In practical projects with a research focus the students solve real-world problems and/or tackle research issues. Where, due to their employment, students work a minimum of 20 hours a week in a field directly relevant to their subject, they may apply for a partial course credit.

Warehouse 4.0: What will the smart, efficient warehouse and demand centre of tomorrow look like?

The project Warehouse 4.0, run by the Institute of Industrial Management, studies and analyses trends and developments in stock management. A particular focus lies in the current research area of Industry 4.0 and its influence on warehouse management.

Data modelling – vertical integration

During the course of our internal project, the project team explores the topic of data modelling and vertical integration. Industry 4.0 places high demands on automation technology. It requires standardised and integrated networking of the ERP system right through to the sensor, in order to overcome the hierarchical view of the automation pyramid. This project aims to identify the data structures in order to construct a model of vertical integration, and to pinpoint current research and trends in data recording, archiving, aggregation, communication and analysis.

Tomorrow’s entrepreneurs – action plan for setting up a business

Ten years ago FH JOANNEUM Kapfenberg launched the start-up centre ZAT (Centre for Applied Technology) in cooperation with Montanuniversitaet Leoben. Focusing on academic spin-offs, the ZAT is designed to raise awareness of the subject of business start-ups amongst participating universities, and to make it easier for students, graduates and employees to actually set up their own company. Following successful start-up projects at the start of this cooperation, interest in setting up businesses has waned over recent years. In this project, our students generate ideas on how interest in new business start-ups can again be raised both at FH JOANNEUM Kapfenberg and its environment. These ideas form the basis for concrete measures.
