Combining study and work: Kick-start your IT career with a co-op degree programme
The co-op Bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science combines a sound IT education with intensive practical work experience, enabling you to gain valuable experience at a partner company whilst you study. Following a full-time academic year, theory and practice alternate from the third semester onwards: You will study at FH JOANNEUM two days a week, whilst spending the rest of your time working at the company. In terms of content, you will acquire skills in software development, IT systems, cloud computing and security, as well as future technologies such as AI and data science, and from the third semester onwards you will specialise in one of the three study tracks: Full Stack Development, IT Operations & Cloud Infrastructure or Web & App Development.
What will I learn on the course?
Developing software and implementing digital solutions
Programming, software engineering, web technologies, APIs, databases and modern development processes are integral parts of the curriculum. Students learn how to turn an idea into a working application.
Understanding IT systems, the cloud and security
This area covers networks, Linux, IT infrastructure, cloud computing, virtualisation, system administration and cybersecurity. This enables students to understand how digital systems are operated, secured and scaled.
Applying future technologies and practical experience
This includes the fundamentals of AI, data science, machine learning, project management, hackathons, start-up projects, work placements and the Bachelor’s thesis. The focus is on applying new knowledge directly to real-world IT tasks.
What can I specialise in during my degree?
Study track Full Stack Development
You will develop modern software solutions from the initial idea through to the finished product – covering front-end, back-end, databases, APIs and DevOps. You will learn to design, implement and continuously refine applications professionally. AI-supported software development, web technologies and practical projects will specifically prepare you for in-demand roles within software teams.
Study track IT Operations & Cloud Infrastructure
You will operate, automate and secure modern IT and cloud infrastructures – from server and network systems through to cloud services, DevOps and Infrastructure as Code. Cloud computing, IT operations, system administration and practical project work will specifically prepare you for in-demand roles in the infrastructure and cloud sectors.
Study track Web & App Development
You will develop user-centred web and mobile applications – from the initial idea through to design and implementation, right up to the finished digital solution. You will learn to professionally design and further develop interactive web applications, Android and iOS apps, as well as e-commerce solutions. User-centred design, web development, mobile app development and practical projects will specifically prepare you for in-demand roles in web, app and product development.
