Key data

Job description: Radiographer
Company: Steiermärkische Krankenanstaltengesellschaft m.b.H., Region Nord, 1. LKH Hochsteiermark, Bruck an der Mur
I work in: Bruck an der Mur, Austria
I’ve worked here since: 2014

What I do:

My tasks involve taking X-ray images and planning, carrying out and reconstructing computed tomography scans. In angiography and interventional radiology, my field of responsibility involves sterile and nonsterile assistance with diagnostic and interventional angiography examinations. Another of my responsibilities is to operate the C-arm during operations, intensive care unit procedures and radiographic examinations in the emergency room.

Why I love my job:

I love my job because I am always challenged by the wide range of activities and the work is never monotonous. I particularly like it when patients feel well cared for and express their thanks with a smile.

Important skills in my job:

  • Social skills
  • Responsibility
  • Accuracy

My biggest accomplishment so far:

I find that, in our profession, we are repeatedly confronted with challenges and successes of which we can be proud. One of my personal successes was working my first 24 hour shift.

How I found my current job:

I wanted to work at the LKH Bruck an der Mur from the outset. During my studies, the opportunity arose to complete an internship at a hospital of our choice and so I completed an internship in computed tomography at the LKH Bruck an der Mur. Luckily, just before I completed my studies, a vacancy for the post of Radiographer came up and I applied immediately.

What I learned for this job during my studies:

The numerous internships I have completed have provided me with a wealth of practical experience in terms of how to treat patients. During my Bachelor’s thesis in angiography and interventional radiology, I was also able to learn various practical skills which I can successfully apply in my work.

Job prospects in my field:

I think the job prospects for radiographers are very good. After completing a Bachelor’s degree, there is a wide range of activities and opportunities on offer for starting out in the field of radiography.

I am:

I am conscientious and complete my work carefully. I also maintain friendly relations with the patients and have a good cooperative relationship with my work colleagues.

About my job:

Completing this course is the best decision I have ever made. I really enjoy working with the patients and collaborating with my work colleagues. Of course there are stressful and tiring work days but successful events, both large and small, mean that these stresses are quickly forgotten. As I mentioned, I wanted to work at this regional hospital from the outset. One main reason for this is the wide range of activities involved. It has always been important to me in my job that I never stop enjoying my work and continue to carry out my work in a responsible, conscientious and considerate manner. I would like to tell students and those interested in the course that it is a huge advantage to work with great care and ask lots of questions during every internship so as to get as much out of the many internships as possible.
