German Language Competence Course

The course combines the competences reception, production, interaction as well as communicative language competences. The main focus is on the development of vocabulary and grammar and their oral and written implementation.

In this course, participants develop the ability to interact successfully and adequately with people (from other cultural backgrounds) and in groups. They also acquire the basics of self-organisation and self-regulated learning. Finally, the course specifically prepares students for the placement test and the interview.

While the oral reception and production of German learners at B2 level are quite sufficient in everyday life, presenting academic content often proves to be extremely difficult, although this form of oral competence is particularly important both for academic success and for later professional life. The course offers support for building up linguistic and methodological skills for studying and for scientific content in presentations, papers, etc., and in particular addresses the linguistic academic and professional needs.

Perfecting written production usually falls by the wayside, even for German learners at level B2, which has a detrimental effect on academic success. This course promotes the development of writing and reading skills of scientific as well as subject-related content and specifically addresses the linguistic academic and subject needs.
