Admission requirements

You meet the formal requirements for this Master’s degree programme if you have

  • a relevant Bachelor’s or Diploma degree or
  • an equivalent post-secondary education.

There are currently three ways to meet the admission requirements:

1.) The admission requirements will be considered to be met if you have a Bachelor’s degree of at least 180 ECTS credits (or an equivalent degree) from an FH JOANNEUM degree programme at the Department of Applied Computer Sciences, e.g.:

  • eHealth
  • Information Management
  • Mobile Software Development
  • Internet Technology
  • Software Design

2.) The admission requirements will be considered to be met if you have a Bachelor’s degree of at least 180 ECTS credits (or an equivalent degree) in one of the following disciplines:

  • Mathematics, statistics or related disciplines
  • Informatics, telematics, information management, business informatics or related disciplines
  • Physics, electrical engineering, electronics or related disciplines
  • Economics, econometrics or related disciplines
  • Automotive engineering, aviation or related disciplines

The name of the degree programme is not relevant in this context; the important thing is that one or more of the above disciplines must be part of the core curriculum for the Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree). In case of doubt, the level of scientific education provided in subjects such as mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, informatics and applied informatics will also be taken into account. For example, the following FH JOANNEUM degree programmes meet the admission requirements:

  • Electronics and Computer Engineering
  • Aviation
  • Automotive Engineering

3.) The admission requirements will be considered to be met if you have a Bachelor’s degree of at least 180 ECTS credits (or an equivalent degree) and at least 60 ECTS credits in the fields of mathematics and applied mathematics, statistics and/or informatics and applied informatics.

The head of degree programme will decide on a case-by-case basis whether the admission requirements are met. You will be notified of the decision once we have received your full set of application documents. If your degree is basically equivalent but lacks specific qualifications, admission will be granted subject to passing the relevant exams during the course of the Master’s programme.

Tip:

The Master’s degree programme in Data and Information Science is thus open to graduates of a wide range of Bachelor’s degree programmes or equivalent post-secondary courses from different universities.

Language skills

The degree programme is taught in German. If you are proficient in German at level B2 you should have no problem following the classes. Please send us a certificate evidencing your language skills unless these are included in your secondary school leaving certificate or similar diplomas.

Note:

This degree programme is subject to the provisions of the FH JOANNEUM Study and Examination Regulations as amended and the relevant provisions of the University of Applied Sciences Studies Act (FHStG).
