Profile

Patricija Mildner

My internship at the LKH University Hospital in Graz.

Job description: Radiographer
Company: University Clinic for Radiology
Place: Graz, Austria
I did my internship from March to April 2015.

What I did:

My three main activities during the internship were to instruct and inform patients about the examination procedure according to the situation, to independently carry out examinations in accordance with the general adjustment criteria and to identify the image features and quality criteria.

Why I enjoyed my internship:

The internship was particularly enjoyable due to the day-to-day contact with patients as well as the opportunity to work independently and the good team work within the team.

What I learned:

The four-week internship at the LKH University Hospital in Graz was a great challenge in the field of skeletal X-rays and allowed me to learn a great deal. The team placed a lot of trust in me from the outset so that I dealt with patients on my own from the very first day, from calling them in to seeing them off. My time there also involved lots of tips from qualified radiographers.

My biggest success / My greatest experience:

My biggest success or my best experience during the internship was working independently at the mobile X-ray station. I was particularly aware of my responsibility during that.

How I secured the internship:

The individual internship positions were allocated to us during our course and we had the chance to choose our preferred place.

What I want to do in the future:

Although the internship was often very stressful, I really enjoyed it. It helped me progress on a professional and a human level. The internship also made me realise that I want to continue my studies in this field and work in this profession in the future.
