The Arctic offers a unique and exciting environment for testing and operating new technologies from various fields such as industrial management, aviation, automotive engineering, healthcare, and many more. Moreover, the Arctic is warming three times faster than the global average, which makes research and field measurements particularly valuable as climate indicators.
The JOANNEUM Arctic Expedition Team brings together students and faculty members from various disciplines to develop new use cases and technical prototypes. The goal is to support the University of Copenhagen’s research stations and the newly established Austrian Polar Research Station of the University of Graz in the areas of automation and digitalization, enabling high-resolution and year-round field measurements in the Arctic.
Project Objectives
The goal of the JOANNEUM Arctic Expedition Team (AET) is to train the next generation of Arctic experts. All team members are to gain a comprehensive understanding of technologies and research topics relevant to the Arctic in order to be prepared to independently lead future Arctic expeditions themselves. The expedition is organized and led by the team and actively supported in every phase of the expedition and provide on-site guidance in Greenland by the AET leads, Stefan Muckenhuber and Thomas Gölles.
