One or more courses can be selected for individual specialization or in-depth study. Please note that the total work load must amount to at least 3 ECTS.
Topics of the electives offered address specific occupational therapy content as well as current developments in the profession for the in-depth study of individual specialist areas or settings and target groups. Students can also take advantage of the opportunity to work on occupational therapy case studies or exchange and construct knowledge on other relevant topics with students from other countries. Finally, there is also the opportunity to get to know project or research-related tasks.

Occupational Therapy in Geriatrics
• Occupational therapy process (assessment, goal definition, planning and intervention) based on selected geriatric diseases and disorders (including frailty, dementia, MCI, age-related depression, addiction in old age, visual impairments and visual impairments, internal diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, COPD, wound healing disorders), taking into account components relevant to activity in different therapy settings
• Effects of selected geriatric diseases and disorders on the ability to act and participate in everyday life and in the areas of self-preservation, productivity and leisure, taking into account environmental circumstances with regard to physical, institutional, cultural and social conditions

Simulation training in geriatrics and interprofessional collaboration
• Practical implementation of the occupational therapy process (diagnostics including selected assessments, tests and screenings, goal definition, planning and intervention and evaluation) for real or simulated geriatric illnesses and disorders and healthy individuals, taking into account components relevant to activity
• Practical implementation of the occupational therapy process in in-patient/acute geriatric facilities
• Independent implementation of occupational therapy interventions in nursing and care facilities, focusing in particular on the handling of geriatric clients as well as transfers and the implementation of meaningful activities during therapy
• The interprofessional team in the geriatric setting, the tasks and roles of dietetics, nursing, speech therapy and their interfaces with occupational therapy practice
