Requirements for graduation

To graduate from the degree programme, you must:

  • have completed at least 120 ECTS
  • have received a positive assessment of your Master’s thesis, including presentation and defence
  • have passed the Master’s examination

Your title on graduation will be “Master of Science in Engineering (MSc)”

Master’s thesis

In their Master’s thesis students examine a current topic drawn from the broad subject area of environmental management, energy or mobility technologies. Their topic must be approved by the head of degree programme in advance and the thesis should be an independent piece of scientific work. Degree programme supervisors are available to offer advice to students on a one-to-one basis. It is also possible to write the thesis in cooperation with a company, or at one of our partner universities in Austria or abroad. In this case you will receive support from an internal and an external supervisor. This project-based Master's thesis is often the first step into the world of work and the springboard for a professional career.

Master's examination

The final examinations are held either in the summer, in July, or in the autumn, in September (or, if necessary, in mid-December).

The final examination consists of two parts, both in English: a presentation of the thesis and a subsequent defence of the thesis before the examining board. The members of the examining board will subsequently ask questions on other relevant topics from the curriculum and the subject area of the Master's thesis.

The examining board consists of the head of the degree programme, the thesis supervisor, and a professor from the degree programme.

After graduation

Our graduates can either move into the world of work or pursue an academic career by studying for a doctorate.
