Key data

Job description: Software Developer
Company: evolaris next level GmbH
I work in: Graz, Austria
I’ve worked here since: 2014

What I do:

My primary roles are technical design and the implementation of software systems. The range of topics is very broad and extends from front-end and back-end solutions to database design involving both web applications and native apps.

Why I love my job:

I think it’s great fun to design software systems and networks. This always presents new challenges because no two projects are alike. As a software developer, you can generally be very flexible and there are no fixed working hours.

Important skills in my job:

  • Analytical and solution-oriented thinking
  • Communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of English

My biggest accomplishment so far:

I am particularly proud of the fact, after just a short time with the company, I was able to independently take on key tasks in large-scale international customer and research projects and was given a responsible position in the relevant project teams.

How I found my current job:

In summer 2014, I completed a holiday internship at evolaris. After the internship, I was able to continue working there on a part-time basis.

What I learned for this job during my studies:

In addition to the excellent technical training provided, I also learned a great deal in the fields of corporate and project management in particular. Since I collaborate in numerous projects professionally, this really helped in my job. Another important discovery was the fact that software development involves much more than just programming.

Job prospects in my field:

I would rate the job opportunities in my field as exceptional. Software developers are currently in high demand in general and we are always looking for new ones here at our company.

I am:

  • reliable
  • independent
  • always ready to learn something new

About my job:

I really like working at evolaris because the close collaboration with companies like AVL and Kapsch opens up lots of possibilities for quickly applying new technologies in practice, such as smartglasses. There is also exceptional collaboration among the employees and regular joint activities outside of the working hours. I would recommend that future students try everything which interests them for themselves – that is how you learn the most.

I am currently studying:

For a Master’s in IT & Mobile Security at FH JOANNEUM in Kapfenberg.

I am continuing my studies because:

...I have long been interested in the issue of computer system security and I find cryptographic algorithms very exciting.

How I make studying compatible with my job:

In my opinion, good time management and organisation, with sufficient time for relaxation and leisure, are essential in successfully combining work and studies. One big advantage of part-time study is that you can acquire professional experience as you learn and apply your skills in practical settings.
