- “All black people are drug dealers!”
- “Women on the wheel: monsters!”
- “They’re just economic refugees!”
Most of you have heard sayings like these on every day life.
The best arguments against them usually only occur to us afterwards.
The argumentation training against every day racism searches for answers to expressions like these and offers a place to practice counter-strategies.The participants collect “everyday racism” – discriminatory, generalising, catchphrase-like statements.
These are introduced in simulated conversation situations and possible ways of reacting to them are tested.
Communication strategies are developed through subsequent analysis on an emotional, rhetorical and factual level as well as through the development of accurate argumentation.
In addition, the political, socio-psychological and social contexts of the statements are examined together in the training.
This training will be concluded by addressing the question of which reasons motivate us individually and in which situations to intervene and to oppose to such statements.
