Insect Pet / Insektenterrarium

Ein nachhaltiges Insektenterrarium für artgerechte Tierhaltung.

In her master’s thesis, Katharina Leitner examined the environmental impact of pets such as dogs and cats and found that they have high CO2 emissions. She recommends keeping insects such as praying mantises and stick insects as a more environmentally friendly alternative, for which a sustainable insect terrarium has been developed.

Due to their time, care and space requirements, domestic animals are almost impossible for their owners to handle in certain phases of their lives. However, due to the increasing loneliness in society, more and more people want an animal. Unfortunately, the desire for a pet has a considerable impact on our environment and the climate.

The CO2 emissions of an average dog are comparable to those of an average SUV, and those of a cat to those of a small car. This environmental impact of animal feed is the reason for the search for alternatives. Praying mantises, stick insects and walking leaves are not only very easy to care for, beautiful to look at and space-saving, but also virtually CO2-neutral. An innovative and sustainable insect terrarium has been developed to keep these animals in a species-appropriate way.
